sushi boat @ sushi love
a friend of mine suggested going out to eat on saturday night; tired of chicken, beef and salad she suggested sushi love . i was excited because it was my first time eating sushi so i was all for it. wow, i was impressed with the ambiance and for it to be fairly new it was packed. me being a newbie i was clueless about what to order. we started things off with vegetable filled dumplings...delicious. we were both starving so the anticipation for our entrees was immeasurable, we took notice of the other diner's plates and everything smelled divine and looked scrumptious. finally our cucumber and snow crab sushi arrived along with an order of pad see eew with chicken!! there aren't enough words in the human language to describe how delicious our meal was!
the table next to us ordered a sushi boat (pictured above) and i was dumbfounded by how palatable the dish looked and how much was given. we must take a large enough group next time to conquer the sushi boat!!

this past weekend i celebrated my birthday, i decided to treat myself with minx nails!!! you've seen them on beyonce, solange, katy perry, rihanna and many more fashion forward music artist. i remember hearing about them last year but to my dismay no one was doing the minx application in my area. curiosity reared it's head again and i clicked over to minx.com and to my surprise morning star nails in raleigh, nc was listed as a certified minx salon!! i called and spoke with meryl and scheduled an appointment, i went back to the minx site to check out the different designs and was set on having a metallic application.
you're probably wondering about the process. first you pick the adhesive design that you want (there were so many stylish ones); i stuck with the metallic choice with an added twist...more about that later. meryl, is a new york native and has been in the manicuring business for over 20 years. she started off by giving me a manicure and then we got down to business. no base coat is applied because it is an adhesive, which means the nail has to be free of any polish or residue. then a lamp heats the adhesive and a silver tool is used to apply it. each minx adhesive fits perfectly to your cuticle and the adhesive is then cut down to the length of your nail. meryl then meticulously cut and shaped each adhesive to fit my nail. no need to worry about smearing or chipping, minx is not a polish!! these typically last for about 2 weeks. these can be applied to natural or artificial nails and you can have the minx application done to those precious tootsies too!! i've received so many compliments on my nails!! i absolutely LOVE them and will definitely be going back to meryl at morning star nails. until next time...stay up and keep it fresh!! xo
check out the metallic design with a twist below!

in the midst of the extremely humid climate lies a hidden treasure, ual (united apparel liquidators), is nestled among the busy streets of the french quarter; this gem is a secret to tourists and a crowned jewel to the locals. filled with vintage pieces, gently used designer shoes and clothes and discontinued, sample items or leftover items that couldn't be sold. i was introduced to this shop by a friend while visiting a couple of weeks ago. i was delighted by all the fashion goodies inside but somewhat overwhelmed...i hate sorting through racks of clothing and shelves of shoes but found solace in their jewelry display. i found it hard to find my size, i'm a 0 or 2 depending upon the designer but quickly became delighted with the steals i found after patiently scavengering through the various turnstyles of clothing. i snatched up a black halo dress , an elijah tank , a pair of kenneth jay lane earrings and a chunky kenneth jay lane ring for the ridiculously low price of $150!! there shoe selection was remarkable too; sergio rossi, brian atwood, jimmy choo and so many more. did i mention the chloe handbags? if you're ever in new orleans pay them a visit at 518 Chartres, New Orleans LA. until next time...stay up and keep it fresh!! xo

a couple of weeks ago i attended a poetry reading at cafe beyond in chapel hill. i heard about events like this, seen them on tv; anybody remember the poetry reading in love jones? i had so many thoughts swirling around in my head culminating into excitement.
my girlfriend and i headed up franklin street and ran into leander, who just so happened to be one of the poets speaking that night. he was charming, polite and very insightful; this interaction heightened my expectations. cafe beyond is hidden within the many shops, cafe's and clubs on the world famous franklin street. downstairs we went and at first i felt a little apprehensive about going in, the lights were dim, the crowd was small and it seemed like everyone knew everyone except us!! the small crowd quickly dissipated and grew into a great turn out. the host began and the poets put their heart and soul on display, speaking of poverty, change, love, death, aspirations, hipocracy, empowerment...even myspace.
zak, g, trin-a-thougthz, jamila, sacrificial poets, life, tracy, leander and bishop really made my first poetry reading worth my while. i really "digged" : - ) what they were saying i wanted to snap my fingers, burn some incense and show my poetic side. i plan on attending more, you may even see me get on the mic. check them out every wednesday at 128 west franklin street, chapel hill nc. until next time...stay up and keep it fresh!! xo

the weather was great and the wine was flowing...a couple of my friends and i ventured out to The Wine Cellar and were pleased with our experience. you're probably wondering what was so special about this place; a complimentary wine tasting, that's what!! danny and doreen moran host a complimentary wine tasting every weekend (friday or saturday) at their durham, nc location complete with wine glasses, light refreshments and insight on each wine being sampled. special discounts are offered during the wine tastings on all of the featured wines. we had two white wines and three red wines to choose from. not all were to my liking (i'm a white wine chick) but i sampled all and refused to dispose of any in the bucket.
The Wine Cellar is nestled in Sutton Station on Fayetteville Road near great eateries and unique boutiques. what i enjoyed most about this event was the laid-back atmosphere; doreen carried on conversation and was very knowledgable about all of the wines in her shop. her heart-warming smile and personable conversation won me over making me a faithful patron of her shop.
not only do they offer wine tastings at their store they also offer the option of hosting private wine tastings at your desirable location or at their shop. one could become a true wine connoisseur with these services.
hop over to www.winecellarnc.com to view their calendar of events or pay them a visit at 5850 Fayetteville Rd. Sutton Station Durham NC.
until next time...stay up and keep it fresh!! xo
